don cherry is a (frank)ing idiot and I thank God I don't have to see much of him here in the US. Really have no clue why anyone likes him. He's just annoying and has poopty fashion sense |

Don Cherry is a hockey visionary, legend, icon, who in one ten-minute rant confirmed everything I've (also) originally thought about him: He's a narrow-minded, xenophobic idiot who turned a personal vendetta into a CBC circus.
Doesn't excuse Burke's actions in the slightest, but Cherry's the one who let this beef run off the tracks.

Adam Kirshenblatt: The Cherry/Burke Feud - MasWE
Hang on for just 1 second here!! If it were me and some IDIOT was trying to get me fired I would do the EXACT same thing!! I would call him out and make sure EVERYONE knew what he was doing in a snake like fashion Burke did! Cherry although a blow hard makes VALID points and is usually correct in his assumption or views! Hate him or not show him the respect he deserves! Burke has shown the world (AGAIN) how undermining and shallow he is! |

HUGE Burke supporter here. Might be a FORMER Burke supporter pretty soon if this poop keeps going. Cherry did the right thing and called out a guy publicly who tried to get him fired. Burke is an egotistical fool who uses the media to try and get his way. While he constantly runs his mouth on tv and on the air his counterparts in 29 other cities doing their job QUIETLY and, some of them atleast, are building stronger teams. Just shut the (frank) up Burke and build us a winner. If you can't do it, give your notice and give Nonis the reigns, that man is a young superstar GM in the making. |

Good enough to make an average NHL team?, I wish cherry could try and get Burke fired then they'd be even. |

Also, does anyone else actually believe Burke tried getting him fired? Cherry is most likely exaggerating again.
I bet Burke had a conversation with CBC, and complain about Cherry. Big different then trying to get him fired. |

How do we know Burke actually tried to get cherry fired?
Because a half-senile relic on a rant said he did?
Cherry is right on some things, and wrong on so many more. There's a reason he's spent so much time broadcasting, and so little time coaching. |

The point was that there are none on the Maple Leafs and prior to the game on Saturday Burke was arguing with MacLean that players who go back home to Toronto tend to have the game of their lives |

Which, of course, isn't substantiated/quantified at all and probably a complete confirmation bias on Cherry, et al.'s behalf. |

Burke himself was saying "it's a reality" that players come home and play well and that's something they have to deal with.
The logical side of me says why don't you get some of those guys for yourself.
And for those who don't know, this was the Anthopoulos reference i was talking about: http://www.thestar.com/sp...h-accusations-of-cheating |

Well, he's drafted 8 in his last 23 picks... Were there any UFAs that were willing to come in that he chose not to sign? How many Toronto kids did he remove from the team, that were difference makers?
The only UFA that wanted in that I can think of is Cammalleri, and Burke was going after Kessel at the time. |

Yeah, but it's not a reality at all. I've never seen any kind of correlation to indicate otherwise.
Locals tend to notice the play of locals more. No one mentions how icons from Ontario like Hawerchuk/Verbeek/Gilmour* etc. have very average career splits v. Toronto(or, at Toronto specifically) when compared to their overall production. Nor has there been any correlation noted between the production of Ontario players for the Maple Leafs pegged against Ontario players not playing for the Maple Leafs.
It's an argument of convenience, really. |

I'm not saying it's right or wrong, it's just interesting that he would use that as an argument.
The point of the blog was really just to say that this whole dispute is stupid |

I know what you're saying, and it would be one thing if Cherry was the one that brought that up. But it was Burke who was complaining about it pre-show |

And, naturally, I'm not excusing Burke's idiocy in this.
The problem here is that there's nothing interesting - or intelligent - about this beef. There's been so many wars between two (or more) entities in sports that are just so polarizing in nature and draw us closer to the game.
How do media/fans react when one guy tries to out-dumb the other? It's ridiculous.
I actually couldn't believe how bad CBC's HNIC was on Saturday night, btw. Was so close to writing about it, but just didn't want to run any Ottawa coverage off.
Might've been worst broadcast in recent history, with Carey Price trade talk as the exclamation point. |

Sounds like both teams are also fed up with Cherry. - jbold
I'd like to think that most hockey fans in general can look beyond a guy's legacy and note how ridiculous one man looks in grand scheme of things.
Al Campanis was a great figure in baseball. Was. No one gave him the benefit of the doubt after his meltdown. Granted, that was to the extreme, but point holds. |

I started getting fed up with him with, when he was always pro canadian and disliked anything USA,Euro, and for Subbans case, even black.
Cherry is a racist, and he's closed minded.
As a Leaf fan, The most annoying things he's said is things like this, and how he loves Zigomanis and said he was the reason why our PK was terrible, because he wasnt on the team. |
